You can’t have missed this new magazine from chef Jamie Oliver – it’s only got his name all over it. Well, you might have missed it, because for reasons known only to Chez James, it was only sold in WH Smith under some exclusive deal or other.
Exclusive maybe, but you see, where any normal celebrity cook who wanted a magazine might call up CMYK or some other hot-shot publishing company to help him create it, Jamie doesn’t bother with all that. He sets up his own company to produce the mag. So I’m guessing this new company doesn’t hold a lot of clout with the news trade.
Anyway, I digress. The magazine does look really good. Bastard size, uncoated stock, spot varnish on the cover, funky fonts, and that all important bound-in pull-out perforated monthly recipe section. Wait a minute, Monday, lunchtime, simple sandwiches!? Brown bread, ham, cheese, butter? Who’s he trying to kid? Well, we will just have to wait and see. Issue two out any moment now, and according to Jamie himself it’s “proper good” (just hope he’s not doing any subbing). www.jamiemagazine.com
